ABOUT TARAAB.

The ancient (Previous) Taarab and today’s taarab is different because in ancient Taarab was only conducted by men but finally Siti bint Saad started followed by Kidude and other women.

The ancient taarab had not involved the dancing of people and instead they were allowed to go and reward the singer. But nowadays it is vise versa, the singer comes down to the audience and people follow him/her and dance Sacarstically and using veiled language. Today's taarab mostly involves in love aspects.

Taarab had specific place but nowadays it may be conducted any way especially bar (Entertainment place).

However this kind of music changed from locally to modern, people still like this kind of music and remain as the one among the famous kinds of music in Zanzibar because the groups and solo artists of this kind of music increased. Some of the groups which are available now are Zanzibar star modern taarab, Melody modern taarab and Jahazi modern taarab. Not only that but also there are alot of artists who sing this kind of music as solo artist, some of them are Mzee Yussuf and Jafar Bhai.
